Firemen, as we call them, have to go to school, just like you! They just learn different things. Firemen learn how to climb ladders, use ropes, climb walls, and use hoses. They practice and practice. It is a lot of work. A fire hose that they practice with has great force when the water shoots out from the nozzle. They must learn how to attach hoses to fire hydrants. Firemen must learn to read gauges on the pumper trucks. It is a job that takes much practice.
Firemen use special tools to save people who are trapped in cars or buildings. One tool is the "jaws of life". It can cut through metal. Another tool is an ax. Firemen always need that to break through walls, doors, ceilings, and windows during a fire.
All firemen wear heavy coats and gloves when fighting fires. They wear a helmet. It protects them from things that might fall from burning buildings.
Just like in school, when I tell you to act like a team, it is an especially important part of the learning to be a firemen. Everyone must work together, because they are saving lives and putting out fires.
Firemen must also pass a test! It shows what they have learned. Then they get a chance to graduate. Afterwards they are assigned to work with people who are experienced. This is when they put what they learned into practice.
